Tom Gilmore is a retired CEO of the New Jersey Audubon Society, the oldest and largest conservation organization in the Garden State. For his nearly 30 years’ tenure with the Audubon Society, he has received numerous awards and honors, including the Conservation Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution, the New Jersey Environmental Lobby’s first Environmental Legacy Award, and two Governor’s Environmental Achievement Awards (from New Jersey governors Corzine and Christie). New Jersey Monthly magazine recognized Gilmore as one of the “101 Most Influential People in New Jersey.”
Gilmore is an avid fly fisherman and writer who has traveled across the country for more than 40 years chasing fish from the Florida Keys to the trout streams of Pennsylvania. Along the way he has shared his passion for the sport with others, giving over 100 programs to fly fishing clubs all over North America. While Gilmore loves trout, he is addicted to saltwater fishing: His first book, False Albacore, published in 2002, chronicles the hunt for one of the fastest-swimming fish. His second book, Tuna On The Fly, published in 2006, focuses instead on one of the strongest fish you can catch on the fly. Gilmore’s third book, Flyfisher’s Guide to the Big Apple, published in 2011, highlights the 100 closest trout streams to New York City. His latest endeavor is East Coast Trophy Tailwaters, scheduled for release in the fall of 2014.
Gilmore will treat festival goers to the insider’s guide to fishing for, fighting, and then landing false albacore on the fly. His class will tell you all you need to know to chase one of the fastest and strongest fish swimming, covering not only habitat and tactics but also locations, gear, and technical equipment needs.
